FAQ
About JEE Main & Advanced.
What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
JEE Main is the first-stage national entrance for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, and is the qualifier for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the second stage and is used only for admission to the IITs. The top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main rankers are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
Who is eligible for JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
For JEE Main, candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognised board. There is no age limit. For JEE Advanced, the candidate must qualify JEE Main in the top ~2.5 lakh rank, be born on or after 1 October 2001 (with relaxation for reserved categories), and not have attempted JEE Advanced more than twice in two consecutive years.
When are JEE Main and JEE Advanced held?
JEE Main is conducted by NTA in two sessions every year — typically January and April. JEE Advanced is held once a year, usually in May or June, by one of the seven zonal IITs on a rotational basis.
What is the JEE exam pattern?
JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is a 3-hour computer-based test covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with 75 questions and a maximum of 300 marks. JEE Advanced has two 3-hour papers on the same day, both compulsory, with multiple-choice, multiple-correct, integer-type, and matching questions across all three subjects.
